Woof Radar (woofradar.org) is a non-profit, community-run map for animal welfare in Funchal, Madeira. It is not a company and sells nothing. Contact: hello@woofradar.org.
We collect as little as possible, and we designed the core of the app so that precise locations cannot end up in our database. Report pins are randomly offset on your device before they are sent, and photo location metadata (EXIF GPS) is removed on your device before upload. We show approximate areas, never addresses.
Account. Signing in with Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us (via Supabase, our authentication provider). We use it to attribute your reports, likes, and applications to you.
Reports. The report category and details you choose, an optional note, optional photos, and an approximate location: before anything leaves your device, the position you pick is randomly displaced and snapped to a 50/150/300 m radius bucket. Your device's exact GPS position is never transmitted or stored. Photos are re-encoded on your device, which removes all embedded metadata including GPS coordinates.
Likes and flags. Linked to your account so each person can like or flag a report once.
Listing applications. If you apply to be listed as a trainer or organisation: the name, phone, email, website, and message you submit, plus any certificate documents. Certificates are stored in a private area readable only by moderators — they are never public.
Location permission. If you allow location access, it is used only to centre the map on you. It is not stored, logged, or transmitted to our database.
Technical data. Our hosting providers (Vercel, Supabase) keep standard server logs. Map imagery is loaded from MapTiler, which receives your IP address like any content server. We run no advertising and no analytics trackers.
We process this data to run the service you signed up for (contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and in the legitimate interest of documenting animal-welfare patterns for the organisations that can act on them (Art. 6(1)(f)) — always in aggregated, approximate form.
Public map data — approximate locations, categories, notes, and moderator-approved photos — is visible to signed-in users. Aggregated exports (the same approximate data, with no reporter identities) may be shared with animal-welfare organisations and municipal services in Madeira. Your identity is never attached to a report in any public view or export. We do not sell data to anyone, ever.
Data is stored with Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) and served through Vercel. Map tiles come from MapTiler. These providers act as processors on our behalf.
Reports remain on the map as long as they are relevant to the welfare record. You can request deletion of your account and everything linked to it at any time by contacting hello@woofradar.org; deleting your account removes your identity from the system.
Under the GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, object to processing, and receive a copy of your data. Write to hello@woofradar.org. You can also complain to the Portuguese supervisory authority (CNPD).
We use only the session cookies required to keep you signed in. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
This service is not directed at children under 16.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
